Storm water solutions in Finland

Genrebild för vattenrening.

The city of Riihimäki in Finland is looking for insightful and technologically smart solutions for processing storm water in the Peltosaari district.

Peltosaari district presents a challenge in terms of storm water and flood protection and comprehensive management of storm waters requires an open-minded attitude towards new modes of operation. Finland is in the process of establishing a series of general principles regarding comprehensive storm water management and its planning.

These principles are to be prioritised in the planning of storm water management and should be taken into account when creating a proposal:

  • Preventing the accumulation of storm water
  • Reducing the amount of storm water, i.e. processing and utilising the water at the source
  • Channelling the water with a filtering and retarding system
  • Channelling the water into public retarding and delaying areas, such as wetlands
  • Channelling the water into effluents or away from the area

The innovation call is open from 15 September to 10 November 2017.

The innovation call is open to everyone, from students, private individuals and groups to companies. Solutions proposed for the innovation call must be sufficiently advanced so that they can be piloted in the district.
